Episode 3 posted - Introduction to libertarianism

See my podcast site, freedomrambler.podomatic.com.

Recorded on July 12.

I read some articles explaining what libertarianism is, what libertarians believe, which I found at The Advocates for Self-government website (theadvocates.org). I also introduce my first attempt at writing liberty lyrics to an old classic song, Home on the Range. I call it, Home in the Shire.

I should explain that the Shire is the common name used by some members of the Free State Project to denote the alternate, peaceful society we wish to set up. This alternate society based on voluntary interactions is symbolized by the unveiling of our new declaration of independence, called The Shire Society Declaration, on June 26, 2010, and which I had the proud honor of being a signer of on that day during my recent visit to New Hampshire. The name the Shire is part of the state name of New Hampshire, of course. It also refers to the peaceful society of the Hobbits in the Lord of the Rings books, of course, though that was not the reason for the name choice.

I will post my lyrics in a separate post. Others are free to use or modify these, I just ask to be given credit if you use some of my lyrics.

  1. Another link on the Shire Society Declaration. The link I gave for that currently goes to a section of the Free Keene forum. Someday it will be a stand-alone website.

Here is the link to the actual declaration (hopefully this takes you to page 12 on the thread Officially Creating the Voluntary Society, posts dated May 28, 29, and June 3, 2010): http://forum.freekeene.com/index.php?topic=1997.165
